The Future of Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not effectively use the insulin it produces. People with diabetes often take insulin, a hormone that converts food into energy, to control high blood sugar. As the fastest growing disease in the United States, someone develops diabetes every 20 seconds. In the Philadelphia region the risk of having diabetes is even greater than in other major cities.

In honor of American Diabetes Month, the Penn Medicine Institute for Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism is proud to host the educational event, The Future of Diabetes: Reversing Trends, Promoting Health and Finding a Cure on Thursday, November 11. At the event, a panel of Penn Medicine experts and Philadelphia city officials discuss the current state of diabetes care and what the future holds for diabetes treatment.
